Hi I'm Diane, single with 2 Daughters aged 21 and 18

I thought I liked all modern furniture and accesories until I found the thread on MSE then I noticed I had quite a few shabby chic bits about my house, currently adding a few more items and desperately searching for a dresser to do up

I like the smooth finish on painted furniture rather than all the dents and chips, like I said on MSE I can't cope if my nail polish is chipped so would freak if it was my furniture!

This is going to be fun getting to know you all, although must admit to peeping at a few blogs and feel I know some of your homes quite well now

DD x

Default Hello all

Hi all,
I'm Nina, mum to two young boys (aged 2 and 3.) I'm 23 and live in the west midlands. I didn't actually post on the shabby chic thread but read it every day. I have found it really inspirational and am in the process of doing up my bedroom and kitchen. I have brought quite a few bits as a result of his thread. eg, dresser, kitchen accessories, sewing machine, crochet cushions etc. I hope to post regularly on this forum and will post pics when I get a chance.

Nina. xx

Hello - I'm another Debbie

Have only just posted for the first time at MSE on the Shabby Chic thread

Thanks so much for setting this up - might make me get my finger out and do something creative.
I live in Lincolnshire - moved up from London 2 years ago - live in a 60's bungalow - so wanted a country cottage but we can't always have what we want

I was a cardmaker for over 4 years but gave it up last year as I now work full time and with that and a family to look after - I don't have so much spare time

I am itching to do something creative - you girls are such an inspiration - a really talented bunch

Evening all!
Janet, just turned 50 and temporarily struggling with rheumatoid arthritis , not all bad as it lead me to MSE and then the Shabby Chic thread.
Our house has always been furnished in the style known to the Americans as 'Early Poverty' as we had 3 kids quite close together in age and 1 wage. Now that the youngest is almost 18 it is time to finally start getting house proud - the money saving way!

About me?? What do you all want to know?? This is a difficult one but here goes……

My name’s Viv and I live in Ipswich, Suffolk after having been born in London, grew up in Essex and brought up my children in Norwich in Norfolk.
I was 51 last July and can’t understand how I came to be this old…surely I’m still 41!!
I have three children. Joe will be 27 this July and lives in Sheffield. Sian is 24 and lives in Chesterfield , and finally my youngest Sam was 22 last Sept. Sam has severe learning difficulties and lives at Barrington farm [a residential home for those with special needs ]in Norfolk .

I work full time as Head of English in a large High school in Ipswich. This is a very demanding job that takes up much of my time, but I try to leave time for my other interests ie family history, crafts, writing and folk music/festivals.

Crafting is an interest I have had since a child when my mother used to make glue by mixing flour and water to make a paste with which to stick paper. At the age of 10 I made my first dress. When the children were young I used my crafting skills to transform second hand furniture and create a family home. The house was always full of craft materials, both paper and fabric based. I got really into patchwork and quilting [ Sian’s dolls had some lovely bedding!].

Recently I began a new stage of my life and that is as a grandmother as Harry's [my OH] daughter has two boys and his son , one boy.

Hello, I'm dim becuase I've just posted on the wrong thread !
On MSE I'm Errata, but the opportunity to not use that name on here was too good to miss.
I'm retired and live in West Yorkshire. No kids, just an interfering oik of a dog.
I live in a HA bunglow which is about to be rewired so I'm taking the opportunity to refurb the kitchen and change it from modern to shabby chic. I think it's going to be a challenge !
I've loved the pictures people posted on MSE. Many of the 'finds' were familiar to me because of my great age ! Especially those blooming kitchen cabinets

Hi all. This is so lovely. Thank you Debbie!
Well, I'm so sorry, but I simply could not live with icandream any longer. Hopefully you'll recognise me before too long, as I'll be cursing and bleating about my chair fit to bore everyone.
I've chosen the same user name as my blog, so hopefully that will help.
I'm Caroline (or Caz). I have three children - two girls (11 and 10) and a boy (7). And a chair that is driving me bananas, thanks to Debbie.
The MSE shabby chic forum has helped my confidence in my abilities so much, and I'm so looking forward to seeing this forum grow and develop and getting to know you all better. It's so lovely to see all you guys do. Here's to success. x

Hi all,
I'm Sharie on this forum and many others but Dance in the Dark on MSE as all my other choices had gone and I couldn't think of anything else.

I'm in my 30s and live with the dh and a large number of dogs (have kennels) and am currently renovating our bungalow that I inherited from my grandparents but wasn't lived in for 16 years! I was really happy to find the shabby chic thread as unlike a lot of my friends I'm not into the MFI look and thought I could be odd. Great to find like minds. I love the country/Shabby style and look forward to the day the house gets new floors, installed fireplaces and I get really get my teeth into interior decorating.

I'm happy to find this Shabby community and looking forward to seeing it grow. Thank you to NEgirl and her oh who have taken the time to provide it.

Hi, I’m RosieB (Rosieben on MSE, not sure why as I’m RosieB on every other forum!). Thanks so much for this forum Negirl and to your OH too.

I’m 59 this year, living in the Gloucestershire countryside. I have 2 kids, my dd, dsil and dgd (9) emigrated to Sydney in December, my ds and his partner live in the Cotswolds.

End of April I’m moving to a lovely little victorian property which my son describes as ‘quirky’. I’ll be posting pictures when the decorating etc is a bit further along. Right now I’m exhausted from painting, cleaning, painting, sweeping and painting and I still have to make 3 pairs of curtains… so I hope you’ll forgive me if I’m not about much for the next 2 or 3 weeks but I’ll be checking in to see how you’re all getting on.
There were so many great photos on MSE and some really brilliant ideas, thanks for all the inspiration!

My style is part shabby chic, part country, a bit of a mix up really, but I am very keen on the recycling part of all this. I dont buy anything new unless I have to.

By the way, the first craft-y thing I remember doing is heating old 78rpm records till they were bendable and making fruit bowls from them! This was in nineteen-hundred-and-frozen-to-death I have progressed a little since then

Look forward to getting to know you all better
